Round 2, Pick 44: Tyler Dorsey, Oregon Ducks

Position: Point Guard
Age: 21 (2/14/1996)
Height, Weight, Wingspan: 6’4.5″, 183 pounds, 6’5.25″
2016-17 Slash Line: .467/.423/.755
2016-17 Season Averages: 30.0 MPG, 14.6 PPG, 3.5 RPG, 1.7 APG, 0.8 SPG, 2.3 3PM

In this scenario, the New York Knicks opted to select a small forward with elite upside during the first round of the 2017 NBA Draft. That leaves voids at the point guard and shooting guard positions, but recent rumors imply Ricky Rubio could be the desired veteran to run the show.

Whether or not Rubio is selected, the Knicks should give serious consideration to a sleeper with a bright NBA future: Tyler Dorsey.

The foundation of Dorsey’s potential success will be built upon his elite outside shot and respectable near 6’5″ size. He has a high release point for a point guard, as well as a solid enough frame to be an offensive 2.

In the triangle offense, which tasks guards with being able to space the floor at a high level, Dorsey could operate at point guard and excel in an off-ball capacity.

Beyond the basics, Dorsey is a fearless player who was born for the biggest of moments. He dominated the 2017 NCAA Tournament with late-game heroics that will not soon be forgotten, and flashed that same comfort in the clutch throughout his two-year college career.

If the Knicks decide to draft Dorsey, Phil Jackson could be getting the athletic evolution of the Derek Fisher, Steve Kerr mold of point guards.
