4. Physical Gifts

Maurice Harkless is one of the most physically intriguing young players in the NBA. Not only does he have the size to play multiple positions, but the pure athleticism to be a positive force on both ends of the floor.

For a New York Knicks team that desperately needs athleticism in the frontcourt, Harkless could be the missing piece for Jeff Hornacek.

Harkless stands at 6’9″ with a 7’0″ wingspan and a respectable standing reach of 8’6.5″. Though not necessarily a LeBron James or Blake Griffin type of athlete, he has intriguing leaping ability and the lateral quickness to defend perimeter players.

Harkless uses those gifts to rebound, contest shots, and play the passing lanes at respectable levels, and New York needs all three of those traits

New York’s prominent frontcourt players are Carmelo Anthony, Willy Hernangomez, Mindaugas Kuzminskas, Joakim Noah, Kyle O’Quinn, Kristaps Porzingis, and Lance Thomas. All are skilled, but none possess the level of athleticism that would provide the necessary balance.

Adding Harkless’ size, length, and athleticism could help diversify what’s a generally finesse attack without the added measure of power.
