The 2017 NBA Finals won’t include the New York Knicks, but the event will be of tremendous importance to Phil Jackson’s tenure as team president. It will be the last time Jackson and the Knicks have an opportunity to evaluate pending free agents in an actual game setting.
The question is: which of the pending free agents should the Knicks be most closely evaluating during the 2017 NBA Finals?
Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant have been left off of the list for obvious reasons. They’re all but guaranteed to be maxed out by the Golden State Warriors, and it’s highly unlikely that the two MVPs will be leaving after an NBA Finals appearance.
Beyond Curry, however, the pending free agents in the incomparable 2017 NBA Finals could all be on the radar for New York.
In some instances, the players are ambitious targets who may not look the Knicks’ way. In others, it’ll be a matter of Phil Jackson doing what he’s meant to do as team president and convincing top targets to give New York consideration
