26. Portland Trail Blazers: Derrick White, Colorado Buffaloes

The Portland Trail Blazers have been building an organization around two promising guards and minimal depth behind them. Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum are both high-level scorers, but their backups are lackluster, to say the least.

Having already made two first-round draft picks, Portland finally finds a potentially ideal backup to Lillard with Colorado Buffaloes guard Derrick White.

Although risky, Portland’s pick goes to White. A 6’5″ combo guard with a near 6’8″ wingspan and plus athleticism, White has the physical profile of a potential matchup nightmare and a positionally versatile contributor in the NBA.

From a pure skill perspective, White does a bit of everything on both ends of the floor, and that’s exactly what Portland needs at the guard spots.

White dominated the Pac-12 as a scorer behind his invaluable ability to create penetration and his range as a 3-point shooter. He knows how to turn a rebound into a facilitating opportunity in transition, and is capable of defending multiple positions.

Portland needs a third guard who can alleviate pressure from Lillard and McCollum, and White could step in and excel alongside both players.

If not Portland, then the New York Knicks could make a push for a late first-round pick to select White.
