2. John Jenkins’ 40 Point Performance Against The Long Island Nets

During the Westchester Knicks inaugural season, Doron Lamb set a franchise-record for most points in a game by scoring 40 points in a win over the Iowa Energy. On that night, he shot 12-of-17 from the field and 4-of-5 from beyond the arc, as the Knicks snapped a 10-game losing streak. Since March 12, 2015, many players have come close to the 40 point mark, but couldn’t reach it.

Jimmer Freddete fell short multiple times during the 2015-16 season. Fredette totaled 37 points in his debut against the Grand Rapids Drive. The BYU product posted 36 and 37 points against the Sioux Falls Skyforce in back-to-back games in January of 2016.

Like Fredette, Chasson Randle had stellar back-to-back games where he was close to the 40-point mark. Randle totaled 38 points against the Texas Legends and 36 points against the Austin Spurs in December of 2016. Von Wafer almost broke the two-year record, as he scored 35 points against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants in February of 2017.

Nearly two years after Lamb set the record, John Jenkins matched his performance by totaling 40 points against the Long Island Nets.

Once John Jenkins arrived in Westchester, he displayed his effective shooting from the perimeter. In his first four games, he averaged 22.3 points per game on 52.6 percent from the field and 50.0 percent from 3-point range. Without a go-to scorer on the team, Jenkins provided his scoring ability to the team.

In his ninth game in a Westchester uniform, the Vanderbilt product posted his first 30-plus point game and added 11 rebounds in the process. But that was only the beginning. Three days later, Jenkins reached the 40-point mark. A mark only one player (Doron Lamb) has ever reached in a Westchester Knicks uniform.

While is was a cold day in Brooklyn, NY, Jenkins was heating up the Barclays Center. The Knicks guard had a huge 2nd quarter, as he recorded 13 of his 21 first-half points. His production was huge for the Knicks, as the team had a short roster in the final game of a 5-game road trip. Even with that, the Knicks knew Jenkins was a proven scorer and could rely on him to carry the offensive load after an impressive first half.

In the final minute of the game, Jenkins went in for a lay-up and notched his 40th point of the game. The 6-foot-4 guard finished the game with 40 points on 15-of-30 from the field and 2-of-4 from 3-point range. Also, Jenkins totaled four rebounds and two assists. After Jenkins’ 40-point game against Long Island, two former Phoenix Suns teammates were impressed by his performance.

Despite the loss to the Long Island Nets, John Jenkins accomplished something only one player in Westchester’s history had accomplish. By reaching the 40-point mark, Jenkins has joined Doron Lamb in the Westchester Knicks record book.
