If you’ve been reading the weekly mock drafts placed on Daily Knicks, then you’re likely familiar with how Tyler Dorsey would fit the New York Knicks. The NCAA Tournament hero is an elite 3-point shooter who lacks the ideal skill set for an NBA point guard, but has the tools to flourish in the triangle offense.

An apt comparison for Dorsey would be Derek Fisher in the sense that he thrives under pressure and spaces the floor at a high level.

Dorsey has intriguing defensive potential as a near 6’5″ point guard with a 6’5.25″ wingspan and NBA-caliber athleticism. He wasn’t an elite defender by any stretch of the imagination at Oregon, but the tools exist for head coach Jeff Hornacek to mold him defensively.

Offensively, Dorsey is the sharpshooter whom Hornacek and the Knicks desperately needed during the 2016-17 NBA regular season.

Dorsey finished his two-year career at Oregon with 155 3-point field goals made on 41.6 percent shooting from beyond the arc. With a high release point and unbreakable confidence in his shot, Dorsey became an NCAA Tournament legend for Oregon.

If the Knicks want a triangle-style point guard who lives for the big moments, then drafting Dorsey in the second round of the 2017 NBA Draft could make sense.
