There’s a growing belief that the New York Knicks should trade Kristaps Porzingis. It’s time to end that discussion before it truly begins.

As it pertains to professional sports, New York City has long been the land of hot takes. A city of those in pursuit of instant gratification, seeing the bigger picture is something that fans are rarely able to do—namely those who support the New York Knicks.

That truth is rearing its ugly head with the recent speculation that the Knicks could and, in the eyes of some, should trade Kristaps Porzingis.

Following Phil Jackson’s public and controversial remarks that Carmelo Anthony should accept a trade, the Porzingis rumors began. General managers reached out to the Knicks to gauge just how disgruntled Porzingis is with the Knicks’ front office.

Just as common have been the scorned Anthony supporters who have rebelled against the idea that Porzingis will replace the fan favorite as the featured player.

Regardless of whom it may be, the notion that Porzingis should be traded is an unnecessary rush to judgement. Just two seasons into his NBA career, he’s shown far too many signs of promise and potential to give up on him at such an early stage.

The question is: why should the New York Knicks walk away from any potential Kristaps Porzingis trade discussions that don’t completely sweep Phil Jackson off his feet?
