If the New York Knicks are going to right the ship, then Phil Jackson must plug holes and fill voids. What exactly should New York be looking for?

The New York Knicks are coming off of a 2016-17 NBA regular season that caused many to question the basketball IQ of all involved. The definition of insanity was Knicks basketball, as the organization continued to make the same decisions and expected different results.

As team president Phil Jackson prepares for an offseason that will define his tenure, he’s likely to change key members of New York’s personnel.

The Knicks finished the 2016-17 NBA regular season with a record of 31-51. It went 19-22 at Madison Square Garden and 12-29 on the road, thus resulting in a fourth consecutive season without a postseason appearance.

If the Knicks are going to right the ship, then they must improve on more than just an executional level—it’ll be just as much about finding the right minds to mold and work with.

New York has an abundance of options on the draft and free agency fronts. In order to ace the offseason, however, the Knicks’ embattled team president must find the type of people and players who fit a specific vision.

The question is: before we get into the specific players worth targeting, what type of assets should the New York Knicks be looking for?
