Knicks Trade Rumors: Pros And Cons Of Pursuing J.J. Redick
Trading Carmelo Anthony to the Los Angeles Clippers will require J.J. Redick to sign with the New York Knicks. What would the Pros and Cons of that move be?
New York Knicks team president Phil Jackson has made it no secret that he’ll attempt to trade Carmelo Anthony this coming offseason. He publicly advised Anthony to accept a trade elsewhere and fielded offers for the 10-time All-Star at the 2017 NBA trade deadline.
The latest revelation has divulged what it would take for the Knicks to execute a trade of Anthony to the Clippers.
Anthony’s no-trade clause enables him to accept or decline any trade package that he’s included in. Even if he were to sign off on a trade to the Clippers, however, it would still be up to Jackson to determine if the incoming package would justify the loss of Anthony.
According to Marc Berman of The New York Post, an Anthony to the Clippers trade would be contingent upon J.J. Redick being included.
"According to some league executives, the only deal that makes sense for both sides is packaging Redick, combo guard Austin Rivers and adding wing man Wesley Johnson for financial purposes in exchange for Anthony and perhaps one of the Knicks’ two second-round picks in next month’s draft."
Trading for Redick could be an intriguing development for the Knicks, but would it be the right move for the organization?
Redick has developed into one of the better shooting guards in the NBA. He’s done the improbable by experiencing something of a career renaissance after the age of 30, and has done so on a consistently relevant contender.
The question is: should the New York Knicks sign J.J. Redick as a part of the sign-and-trade for Carmelo Anthony?
