Knicks Rumors: Pros, Cons Of Pursuing Jrue Holiday In Free Agency
Pro: Playmaking Ability
Whether it’s a point guard or otherwise, the New York Knicks need a playmaker. Running a system through any one player is rarely a wise idea, but in order for this motion offense to flourish, there must be an individual who can consistently create for their self and others.
Jrue Holiday is somewhat underrated in this regard, but he’s one of the better shot creators in the NBA today.
Holiday boasts career averages of 6.2 assists per game and 7.0 assists per 36 minutes. Since he averaged just 4.5 assists per game in 2011-12, those numbers have jumped to 7.2 assists per game and 7.8 assists per 36 minutes over a five-season span.
During that time, Holiday has recorded an effective and efficient assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.41, and has averaged less than 3.0 turnovers per game in three consecutive seasons.
During that same five-year run, Holiday has averaged 16.1 points per game and 17.6 points per 36 minutes. He’s done so on a slash line of .441/.359/.783, which encompasses his ability to both pull up and shoot or drive and either finish or facilitate.
As both a second or third scoring option and the primary facilitator, the Knicks could find what they need on offense by starting Justin Holiday with Kristaps Porzingis and Willy Hernangomez.
