The New York Knicks are reportedly interested in signing free agent point guard Jrue Holiday. What would the pros and cons of that pursuit be?

New York Knicks team president Phil Jackson appears to be coming around to the value of a point guard in the modern NBA. Landing a superstar may be an unrealistic goal, but Jackson believes he can find the right fit through either the draft or free agency.

A recent report implies that the brother of a member of the 2016-17 Knicks roster could be one of The Zen Master’s top offseason targets.

Jackson has been intrigued by the proposition of acquiring Jrue Holiday for multiple seasons. Holiday, the younger brother of 2016-17 Knick Justin Holiday, commanded a high asking price, however, and New York thus failed to acquire his services.

According to Ian Begley of ESPN New York, Jackson is returning his attention to Holiday now that the 26-year-old is entering free agency.

"But it doesn’t seem like enough to lure New Orleans point guard Jrue Holiday or Indiana Pacers point guard Jeff Teague, who some in the organization see as potential free-agent targets, per league sources. The Knicks would have to move some money off of the books to afford either Holiday or Teague."

That’s far from a surprising development, but it’s one that New York will need to put serious consideration into committing to.

Holiday, who will turn 27 in June, made the All-Star Game during his final season in the Eastern Conference. Since 2012-13, he’s overcome a two-year stretch of incessant injuries to return to his perch as one of the top two-way players at his position.

The question is: should the New York Knicks make a run at Jrue Holiday in free agency? The pros and cons should help answer that question.
