3. Triangle Offense Experience

The New York Knicks are reportedly staging an open rebellion against Phil Jackson and the triangle offense. There’s no telling who will win this alleged tug of war, but Jackson has the support of owner James Dolan and could ask the players to give the system one more season.

The common theme amongst Knicks players has been confusion with how to properly run the triangle offense, which is where Pau Gasol could come into play.

Gasol won two championships and made three NBA Finals appearances while running the triangle offense. Thus, while the system may be polarizing, Gasol is one of the stars who understands how beneficial the system can be, namely for big men.

Porzingis and Gasol aren’t identical players, but the latter can teach the former how he can utilize the system to make offense easier to come by.

Gasol was a master of utilizing the high post to generate offense for both himself and others. Porzingis is capable of the same success, if not more, when one considers the athleticism and slashing ability he possesses.

If Porzingis and Gasol were to train together, one can’t help but feel as though KP would come back with a stronger understanding of the system he’s being asked to run.
