New York Knicks power forward Kristaps Porzingis expressed a desire to work out with Pau Gasol. Here are five reasons he needs to arrange a training session.

If all goes according to plan, Kristaps Porzingis will be in for the busiest offseason of his basketball career. The 21-year-old phenom has made it public knowledge that he’d like to spend the summer of 2017 training with some of the greatest players in NBA history.

Having acknowledged the reasons why Porzingis should train with Dirk Nowitzki, the next logical step would be to turn the attention to Pau Gasol.

Gasol and Porzingis aren’t necessarily comparable players in terms of style or approach, but they share intriguing and somewhat subtle similarities. Having both played in the Spanish Liga ACB, the connection has been made before.

Thus, it comes as no surprise that Porzingis told Marc Berman of The New York Post that he hopes to work out with Gasol during the upcoming offseason.

“The way he reads the game,” Porzingis said when asked what he’s culled from Gasol. “How he always takes his time. Reads the game well, He’s an intelligent player. Hopefully I’ll have a chance to work out with him.”

That would be a delightful opportunity for Porzingis to learn from one of the greatest big men in NBA history.

Gasol currently plays for the San Antonio Spurs, which reached the 2017 NBA Playoffs. Thus, Porzingis will be unable to train with Gasol until San Antonio is either eliminated or wins the Larry O’Brien Trophy.

The question is: what would the benefits be of Kristaps Porzingis spending time and working out with the legendary Pau Gasol?
