5. The Similarities

Any white or European player who stands at 7’0″ or taller and can shoot the 3-ball will be compared to Dirk Nowitzki. Whether fair or foul, that’s a reality that a vast majority of NBA Draft analysts have proven with their respective upside comparisons.

Although the blanket statement may be polarizing, it applies when discussing the upside of New York Knicks rising star Kristaps Porzingis.

Porzingis, like Nowitzki, is a 3-point marksman who has shown the ability to go to the post and create with a vast array of moves. He’s even pulled out Nowitzki’s signature knee-up turnaround on more than one occasion.

Based on how similar Porzingis and Nowitzki are, as well as the fact that KP idolized the future Hall of Famer, it stands to reason that a training session would be constructive.

By training with Nowitzki, Porzingis could learn the ideal working and training habits from one of the most respected individuals in league history. Nowitzki can provide perspective on what he should and shouldn’t be focused on developing this early in his career.

Every NBA player can provide perspective, but Nowitzki can teach Porzingis what he learned and what he wishes he’d worked harder to perfect.
