Pro: Embracing The Youth Movement

Sooner or later, the New York Knicks are going to need to fully commit to the youth movement. Kristaps Porzingis and Willy Hernangomez have already become two of the most consistent and reliable players on the roster.

With another Top 10 draft pick on the horizon, Phil Jackson has a chance to build an undeniably bright future for the Knicks.

If Jackson hits the mark in the 2017 NBA Draft, then the Knicks will have three starters age 22 or younger. At that point in time, it would be difficult to justify asking Carmelo Anthony to play with a team that isn’t ready to give him a chance to win a championship.

Anthony could be a great mentor, but if he’s traded for the right package, then the move could facilitate the growth of the youth movement in New York.

Dealing Anthony would likely net the Knicks a strong enough return to improve the quality of Jackson’s long-term vision. Not only could it alleviate cap space, but it could also bring a fourth quality young player to the team.

Losing Anthony would mean losing a leader and a mentor, but it would also mean increasing the responsibilities of less experienced players and thus enabling them to learn by fire.
