New York Knicks team president Phil Jackson publicly stated that Carmelo Anthony should accept a trade. What would the pros and cons of such a move be?

In what was easily the most stunning case of brutal honesty in recent New York Knicks history, Phil Jackson publicly advised Carmelo Anthony to accept a trade. Anthony has spent seven seasons with the Knicks, but the team president believes he’d be better off elsewhere.

If the Knicks act upon the desire to trade Anthony, then it will be up to the player himself to determine whether or not he wants to be dealt elsewhere.

Anthony has been the face of the franchise for close to a decade. During that time, he’s won over a vast number of fans and helped New York make a three-year return to both relevance and prominence in the postseason picture.

Unfortunately, on the heels of four consecutive failed attempts to make the postseason, it’s Anthony who’s finding himself as the proverbial scapegoat.

With rumors swirling that Anthony could be moved, the Knicks seem to be embracing a youth movement. With Anthony soon to turn 33 years of age, it appears as though Jackson no longer views him as a part of that equation.

The question is: what would the pros and cons be of Phil Jackson and the New York Knicks actually trading star forward Carmelo Anthony?
