The 2016-17 NBA regular season was undeniably disappointing, but it yielded five results that will help the New York Knicks in the long-term.

The New York Knicks have completed the 2016-17 NBA season and will now look forward to 2017-18. There are a number of franchise-altering events on the horizon, including the draft and free agency, but before we can look ahead, it would be wise to reflect.

While everyone will point to the Knicks’ 31-51 record, there are a number of reasons to believe that the future is bright in New York.

The veterans failed to show up in 2016-17, but the young guns hit the mark on a consistent enough basis to breed intrigue. In some cases, inexperienced players displayed the potential to grow into key rotational assets.

In others, the younger individuals on the roster took it a step further by flashing legitimate star potential and often living up to the hype it entails.

With a bright future and an opportunity to learn, build, and grow, the Knicks can find silver linings in the 2016-17 failure. The season was a disappointment as far as winning games is concerned, but it was also a productive year.

Believe it or not, there are five reasons to believe that the 2016-17 NBA season was actually a relative success for the New York Knicks.
