New York Knicks: How Much Is Derrick Rose Worth?
Contract Length: Starter
If the New York Knicks determine that Derrick Rose can start at point guard, then his contract would conceivably provide him with a stronger sense of job security. Thus, he’d likely need at least two guaranteed seasons on his new deal.
New York could conceivably offer Rose a three-year deal with a player option for the 2019-20 season, and it stands to reason that Phil Jackson will consider doing so.
If Jackson drafts a point guard, then the Knicks will likely be moving on from the D-Rose project. Having said that, it stands to reason that Rose could be re-signed to a short-term deal if the draftee needs time to develop behind a starter.
Rose is also soon to turn 29 years of age and has an extensive injury history, which will likely deter New York from offering him the full five-year max.
A responsible contract would be a two-year deal, as it would provide Rose with two guaranteed seasons of financial security. It would also pay Rose until the season before he turns 31, and take his injury history into account.
It’s possible that Rose will receive a contract with more security and stability, but the Knicks should limit his deal to a maximum of three seasons.
