New York Knicks: Free Agent Point Guards Who Can Replace Derrick Rose
Derrick Rose has suffered a season-ending knee injury that could prevent the New York Knicks from re-signing him. Who should New York target instead?
The New York Knicks received news of what was both a devastating setback and an opportunity to make a swift decision on a pressing matter. With less than two weeks remaining in the 2016-17 NBA regular season, the starting point guard went down with a season-ending injury.
Per Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, Rose suffered a torn meniscus and will require surgery that will table him for six-to-eight weeks.
It’s still entirely possible that the Knicks will work him out in two months and evaluate him then, but it’s also possible that his cap hold will be waived and his departure will occur.
Fortunately for the Knicks, there are a number of similarly talented players on the open market. Swinging for a superstar may not pay off, but failing to sign an All-NBA wouldn’t necessarily spell the end of Phil Jackson’s pursuit of a point guard.
There are a number of quality veterans who provide similar production and superior value in specific areas of the game.
In some instances, the available point guards are highly regarded as perimeter defenders and 3-point shooters. In others, they have a strong enough combination of playmaking ability and scoring instincts to warrant consideration.
The question is: if the New York Knicks are going to replace Derrick Rose through free agency, who should Phil Jackson be looking at?
