Ron Baker

With Derrick Rose and Carmelo Anthony absent due to reported injuries, Ron Baker got the start against the Miami Heat. In a game against a red-hot Miami team, Baker was as solid as one could have realistically asked him to be.

Baker played all but 10 minutes against the Heat, and he stepped up with strong showings on both ends of the floor.

Baker tallied 10 points, six assists, three rebounds, one block, and a steal in 38 minutes of play. He shot 4-of-7 from the field, 1-of-2 from 3-point range, and 1-of-1 from the free throw line with just one turnover committed.

Most importantly: he competed defensively and did an outstanding job of keeping the ball in motion against a competitive team.

Baker hasn’t been the most statistically impressive player in the NBA, but he’s a competitor. He has a fair amount of Jeff Hornacek in him in the sense that he can play both guard positions and fill a number of roles.

One can only hope that Baker’s performance against the Heat will be a sign of things to come for Baker as a member of the Knicks.
