Gonzaga Bulldogs point guard Nigel Williams-Goss has been named a finalist for the 2016-17 Wooden Award. It’s an incredible leap for a player who only recently struggled to find his niche with the Washington Huskies.

With the Bulldogs, Williams-Goss has reaffirmed the belief that he could develop into an NBA-caliber point guard—a possibility that the New York Knicks could explore.

Williams-Goss was one of the nation’s elite recruits, but his tenure at Washington was less than fruitful. As was the case with a multitude of prospects who played for Lorenzo Romar, the raw skill spoke louder than the execution.

With Gonzaga, Williams-Goss has not only played at a high level individually, but emerged as a respected leader for a dominant team.

Williams-Goss has been rather inefficient during the 2017 NCAA Tournament, but he’s still found ways to contribute. He’s been stellar on defense and stepped up with 23 points, eight rebounds, four assists, two steals, and a block to send Gonzaga to the Final Four.

Gonzaga finally has a legitimate opportunity to win a National Championship and it’s Williams-Goss who will face the most pressure in pursuing that elusive goal.
