Dwayne Bacon and the Florida State Seminoles were unable to avoid a Round of 32 upset. The No. 3 seed Seminoles fell 91-66 to the No. 11 seed Xavier Musketeers in one of the most lopsided heavy upsets in recent memory.
True as that may be, Bacon was the last player to blame for Florida State’s defeat, as he put the icing on what’s been a tremendous individual season.
Bacon finished the Seminoles’ loss to the Musketeers with 20 points, five rebounds, three assists, and a steal in 34 minutes of play. He shot 9-of-18 from the field, went 2-of-2 from the free throw line, and committed just two turnovers.
Though he didn’t receive as much help as he needed against a high-scoring Xavier squad, Bacon continued to pour in big numbers in big games.
During the 2017 ACC Tournament, Bacon tallied 17 points, seven rebounds, and three steals against Virginia Tech, and had 18 points and nine boards against Notre Dame. During the Round of 64 of the 2017 NCAA Tournament, he amassed 25 points and nine rebounds against Florida Gulf Coast.
Bacon’s jump shot is still somewhat erratic, but he’s an explosive athlete with intriguing scoring instincts and a proven knack for stepping up in big games. The New York Knicks could be interested in the second round.
