Taking a chance on an upside player in the second round is an easy gamble to justify. Going for a player who’s somewhat proven, however, is an approach that’s yielded intriguing results for teams throughout the history of the NBA Draft.

If Jaron Blossomgame falls to the second round, then it would behoove the New York Knicks to have done their homework on the Clemson Tigers star.

Clemson will play in the NIT instead of the NCAA Tournament, but Blossomgame shouldn’t be defined by his team’s shortcomings. He’s a positionally versatile forward who competes on defense and has proven capable of shooting the 3-ball with efficiency.

If the Knicks are looking for a Lance Thomas type of player in Round 2, then Blossomgame would be a wise player to invest a draft pick in.

Blossomgame collapsed from elite 3-point shooting in 2015-16 to below-average shooting in 2016-17. True as that may be, his form isn’t broken and his status as an off-ball scoring threat is well-established as dependable.

Playing as the No. 1 scoring option may not be the best idea for Blossomgame, but in a supporting role, he could be a valuable asset.
