The New York Knicks need depth at point guard and Kentucky Wildcats sophomore Isaiah Briscoe needs an opportunity. The New Jersey high school basketball legend has underachieved at Kentucky, but he’s also become underrated.

A rugged defender who can create penetration at virtual will and facilitate the offense, Briscoe could be a diamond in the rough in the second round.

Briscoe is a physically imposing point guard with tree trunks for legs and a powerful upper body. That’s helped him become one of John Calipari’s featured on-ball defenders, which is an appealing truth to a Knicks team that needs defense.

If Briscoe’s defensive tenacity carries over into the NBA, then the Knicks would benefit from adding that type of defender to the roster.

Coupled with a 6’8″ wingspan and an explosive vertical leap, Briscoe has the physical tools to be an impact player. His jump shot is still erratic, but he’s a tremendous ball-handler who can create penetration and facilitate the offense.

Briscoe could be available with the Knicks’ second second-round draft pick, and if he is, it would be wise to add him to the 2017-18 roster.
