Aleksandar Vezenkov has an opportunity to become the first Cyprus-born player in the NBA. He’s made tremendous progress already, shining in Spain as a part of FC Barcelona in the vaunted Liga ACB.

Though some remain skeptical of whether or not he can play full-time along the perimeter, Vezenkov would be a wise target for the New York Knicks in the second round.

Vezenkov has a smooth jump shot and a strong understanding of how to play within a system offensively. He’s essentially a younger version of current Knicks forward Mindaugas Kuzminskas, who has become a fan favorite in New York.

By adding Vezenkov to the mix, the Knicks would pad the perimeter with depth and create something of an insurance policy in case Kuzminskas walks in free agency in 2018.

Vezenkov may be a draft-and-stash player, which could favor the Knicks if he’s willing to spend another season overseas. He’s gaining invaluable experience and polishing his skill set in one of the best basketball leagues in the world.

Phil Jackson has a well-documented infatuation with Liga ACB players, and Vezenkov is an alluring talent on one of the best clubs in the Spanish league.
