Pro: Untapped Potential

Reggie Jackson is a 26-year-old point guard who will turn 27 years of age on April 16. In other words: he’s just now entering his prime, and with 34 games of postseason action, he’s already gained invaluable experience.

Though it may seem silly to say that a 26-year-old has upside, Jackson still hasn’t tapped into his full potential.

The appeal in adding a point guard who has upside to explore is that the Knicks aren’t getting a finished product. That’s been one of the biggest issues with the team in 2016-17, as the veterans acquired simply are who they are.

Getting veterans to change the way they play isn’t the easiest of tasks, but helping a young player who’s just now finding his niche is a more manageable goal.

Jackson carries some baggage in the sense that his character has been questioned and criticized in both Oklahoma City and Detroit. He’d be entering a veteran locker room in New York, however, and Jeff Hornacek is perceived as a player’s coach.

This would be a gamble, but the talent and upside is intriguing enough to believe Hornacek and Phil Jackson can manage any character concerns.
