Con: Injury History

Patrick Beverley has been a source of stability on defense when he’s been on the court. Unfortunately, Beverley has been unable to remain on the court for the entirety of an NBA regular season since he debuted in 2012-13.

If the New York Knicks are going to trade for Beverley, then they must do so with the knowledge that he’s been unable to go through an NBA season without injury troubles.

Starting with 2013-14, Beverley missed 26 of a possible 82 games due in large part to a torn meniscus. Beverley again missed 26 of a possible 82 games in 2014-15, when he was hindered by a number of injuries, including an issue with his hamstring.

Beverley appeared in a respectable 71 out of 82 games in 2015-16, but he’s already missed 14 games in 2016-17 due to wrist and groin injuries.

Beverley’s injuries may be somewhat minor, but as the old saying goes, the best ability is availability. Thus, trading for him could prove risky if he’s expected to fill a significant role within the rotation—which he would be.

Having missed at least 14 games in three of the past four seasons, it would be fair to shy away from Beverley based on his medical history.
