Knicks Trade Rumors: Pros And Cons Of Swapping Derrick Rose For Ricky Rubio
Pro: Helping Carmelo Anthony & Kristaps Porzingis
Derrick Rose provides an invaluable strength to the New York Knicks in the sense that he can attack the basket. Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis are dynamic scoring threats, but neither can consistently create penetration.
True as that may be, what would help Anthony and Porzingis more than a slashing scorer is the presence of a true facilitator
With Anthony and Porzingis already on the roster, the Knicks need a facilitator far more than they need a scorer. Thus, while Rose’s value as a slasher is purely undeniable, the absence of ball movement has devastated New York’s offense in the fourth quarter.
By adding Rubio to the mix, the Knicks would have a starting point guard who can learn his stars’ tendencies and put them in the best possible positions to score.
Rubio’s court vision and passing ability rank amongst the league’s elite. He not only racks up assists, but knows how to pass his teammates open and put them in the optimal positions to put points on the board.
Giving Anthony and Porzingis a facilitator of that caliber would alleviate pressure and enable them to expend more energy on defense.
