Knicks Trade Rumors: Pros And Cons Of Swapping Derrick Rose For Ricky Rubio
Pro: Defining Roles
By bringing Ricky Rubio into the mix, the New York Knicks would essentially be telling Brandon Jennings that he can shoot with more confidence. With Derrick Rose as a non-factor as a facilitator, Jennings doesn’t currently have that luxury.
Jennings would still need to be the facilitator for the second unit, but his gun shy nature hasn’t fit what New York needs from its sixth man.
Jennings must continue to fill the role of the facilitator for the galvanizing second unit. It’s no secret that Jeff Hornacek wants to shoot more freely, however, as Jennings has passed up solid looks at the basket for unnecessary dishes out to players along the perimeter.
With Jennings playing a more balanced game, the second unit should become even more lethal given the unpredictability of his approach.
Jennings has 33 career games with at least 30 points and 44 games with at least 25 points. He also has 150 career regular season game with at least 20 points, including the four he’s provided during the 2016-17 season.
With a true facilitator starting ahead of him, Jennings’ scoring exploits can be more beneficial to the Knicks given the fact that the other point guard can shoulder the facilitating duties.
