Toronto Raptors star Kyle Lowry has become one of the most well-rounded point guards in the NBA. He’s a legitimate two-way player who has postseason experience and a skill set that checks essentially every box as far as pure ability is concerned.
Though many expect Lowry to re-sign with the Raptors, the New York Knicks have a legitimate shot at signing the veteran point guard.
Lowry will turn 31 years of age in March, which means he’d be signing a four-year deal with the Knicks that ends when he’s 35. That could be a deterrent, especially when one considers that Lowry will likely command a max contract.
From a pure talent perspective, however, Lowry would be the Knicks’ best point guard since Stephon Marbury—and he’s already proven to be a more natural leader.
Lowry has 44 games of postseason experience, including 31 starts and an Eastern Conference Finals appearance. In 2016-17, he’s No. 4 in the NBA in Real Plus-Minus and is one of four players averaging at least 20.0 points, 6.0 assists, and 3.0 3-point field goals made per game.
The other three players are Stephen Curry, James Harden, and Isaiah Thomas. In other words: Lowry deserves this All-Star nod.
