Lou Williams, Los Angeles Lakers

Age: 30 (10/27/1986)
Experience: 12th Season
2016-17 Slash Line: .444/.385/.884

Lou Williams has become one of the most respected volume scorers in the NBA. He’s embraced the role of a sixth man and has consistently proven to be a threat to take over games in the fourth quarter.

According to Alex Kennedy of HoopsHype, the Lakers are shopping the 2015 Sixth Man of the Year and are likely to move him before the trade deadline.

"On Tuesday, a general manager confirmed that the Lakers have, in fact, shopped Williams and seem likely to move him prior to the deadline."

The New York Knicks don’t necessarily need a player of Williams’ style of play, but he could be an intriguing option.

Williams is averaging 27.7 points, 4.7 assists, and 3.1 3-point field goals made per 36 minutes on a slash line of .444/.385/.884. Those are numbers that every NBA team would covet from a starter or sixth man, including the Knicks.

New York has a number of capable playmakers on the roster, but the second unit is currently without a go-to scorer.

Trading for Williams could be far more affordable than it would have been in previous months. He has a year remaining on his contract at an affordable $7 million, but Los Angeles is looking to get younger and clear all the cap space it can.

If the Knicks are willing to part ways with a player on an expiring contract—Brandon Jennings and Derrick Rose are the most likely candidates—then a deal could get done.

If Los Angeles comes calling for a first-round draft pick, however, the Knicks should hang up immediately.

It’s possible that the New York Knicks will shy away from all five of these trade options, but they’re possibilities that must be explored, evaluated, and monitored for potential activity.
