4. Defensive Rebounding

The New York Knicks are the perfect example of how statistics don’t always tell the whole story. New York ranks No. 3 in the NBA in rebounds per game and offensive rebounds per game, and No. 7 in defensive rebounds per game.

True as that all may be, the Knicks are one of the worst rebounding teams in the NBA when context is provided.

For as productive as New York may be, they’ve been just as bad at keeping the opposition off of the glass. It’s allowing 11.7 offensive rebounds per game—more than all but three teams in the NBA.

The Knicks are also allowing 15.8 second chance points per game, which is the second-worst mark of any team in the Association.

New York is allowing 108.5 points per game, which ranks No. 25 in the Association. In other words, 14.6 percent of the Knicks’ offense has been created in a manner that’s not only unfortunate, but entirely preventable.

The Milwaukee Bucks aren’t an elite rebounding team, but that hasn’t stopped New York from struggling in the past.
