New York Knicks: Positive Takeaways From Memphis Grizzlies Game
2. Joakim Noah Captures MSG’s Heart
It took just one home game for Joakim Noah to become a fan favorite at Madison Square Garden. His tenacity on the boards, intensity on defense, versatility as a high-post facilitator, and all-around emotion captivated those in attendance at The Mecca.
Noah’s popularity became such a driving force that the crowd broke out in a chant of, “Joakim Noah,” for a mere free throw attempt.
Noah finished with six points, 10 rebounds, seven assists, and a block in 22 minutes of court time. That’s right in line with what can be expected of him in 2016-17, as he won’t provide much as a scorer, but has a well-rounded game on both ends of the floor.
Noah is an outstanding rebounder and facilitator, which is an uncommon and invaluable combination at the center position.
On the defensive end, Noah did an excellent job of breaking up the pick and roll, and moving laterally along the baseline. He still isn’t back at 100 percent, but his range of motion has improved in every appearance.
With more performances like the one he had against Memphis, Noah will have the Knicks surging towards a postseason appearance.
