Derrick Rose

Derrick Rose won over a number of New York Knicks fans during the 111-104 victory against the Memphis Grizzlies. His numbers may not have been those of a superstar, but he overwhelmed the Grizzlies’ defense with his athleticism.

Rose stepped up in key moments, played well without the ball, and crossed Mike Conley up en route to a smooth finish at the rim.

Rose finished with 13 points, four rebounds, an offensive board, three assists, two steals, and one block in 32 minutes. He shot 6-of-13 from the field, split his only free throw attempts, and got to the rim with relative ease.

Though it was his offense that understandably turned heads, it was Rose’s defense that helped set the tone for the Knicks’ exceptional first half.

Rose may never be an elite defensive player, but the gambles he’s been taking fit the bill of what New York needs from him. His speed, quickness, and 6’8″ wingspan enable him to be a terror in the passing lanes and strip the ball from even the most crafty of ball-handlers.

For all of the injuries and criticism he’s endured, Rose’s athleticism remains on par with even the fastest players in the NBA.
