Courtney Lee

New York Knicks starting shooting guard Courtney Lee had an opportunity to achieve a measure of vengeance against the Memphis Grizzlies. Despite his establishing himself as one of the better players on Memphis’ roster, he was traded at the 2016 NBA Trade Deadline.

After going scoreless against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the regular season opener, Lee torched the Grizzlies during the home opener.

Lee finished with 16 points, three rebounds, one assist, and a steal in 34 minutes of action. He shot 6-of-11 from the field, went 2-of-4 from beyond the arc, and hit two clutch free throws in the fourth quarter.

With the Knicks in need of a win and Lee in need of a quality performance, he was one of the best players on the floor.

Beyond the numbers, Lee provided offense in all phases. He converted multiple 3-point field goals, took his man off the bounce, worked without the ball, and helped spark the Knicks’ up-tempo offense against a strong defensive team.

If this is a sign of things to come, then the Knicks can look forward to a high quality season from Lee at shooting guard.
