Justin Holiday

The New York Knicks’ bench has been labeled as a weakness that could derail the push for the postseason. That may or may not prove true, but against the Memphis Grizzlies, the second unit stepped up in key moments.

After playing exceptionally well during the final three preseason games, Justin Holiday stepped up with invaluable contributions against the Memphis Grizzlies.

Holiday finished with eight points, one assist, and one block in 19 minutes of action. He shot 4-of-7 from the field, had a positive +/- of +1, and came up with a number of big shots during Memphis’ resurgent run.

The statistics may not be awe-inspiring, but Holiday made plays when New York needed them most, and that’s far more important than a stat line.

Holiday continues to prove that he’s more than just a 3-and-D specialist who should play off-ball. He took his man off the bounce on a number of occasions, including a smooth move into a midrange jumper that answered Memphis’ second-half run.

The Knicks’ second unit still has something to prove, but Holiday’s performance is an encouraging sign for the future.
