New York Knicks: Players Who Stood Out Against Memphis Grizzlies
Carmelo Anthony
If all you’re looking at is his shooting marks, then Carmelo Anthony didn’t have a very good game. He was off from the field and beyond the arc, and even missed a pair of late free throws that could’ve hurt the New York Knicks.
Beyond his inconsistency as a scorer, however, Anthony made a massive impact on the strength of his energy and contributions as a playmaker.
Anthony finished with 20 points on just 5-of-15 shooting from the field, but he also tallied six rebounds and five assists. He accumulated a +/- of +12 and made a crucial play late in the fourth quarter by pulling down an offensive rebound off of a missed free throw.
It was a well-rounded performance by a player who has long been criticized for his tunnel vision as a scorer.
Anthony will need to find his form and rhythm as a scorer in 2016-17, but it’s encouraging to know he can still contribute when his shot is off. He missed some late free throws, but did enough to secure the Knicks’ victory.
It wasn’t Anthony’s best performance, but the fact that he can still make a positive impact without shooting well is progress from where he used to be.
