New York Knicks: Players Who Must Step Up Against Memphis Grizzlies
2. Carmelo Anthony
For as disappointing as the past three seasons have been, faith remains in Carmelo Anthony’s ability to lead. The New York Knicks won 54 games during Anthony’s best season in New York, which has left a slight glimmer of hope in the hearts of the local fanbase.
Anthony started the game against the Cleveland Cavaliers well, but his cold streak in the second half facilitated the belief that he’s no longer a No. 1 player.
Anthony recorded 19 points, five rebounds, three assists, and one steal on 8-of-18 shooting in 30 minutes of play. He was irresponsible with the ball, struggled to stay out of foul trouble, and shot just 3-of-11 from the field after the first quarter.
As the Knicks endure the ups and downs of developing team chemistry, it’ll be on Anthony to smooth the process over.
In 32 games against the Memphis Grizzlies, Anthony has accumulated an average of 25.3 points on 47.5 percent shooting. The Knicks could certainly use a 25-point eruption from Anthony in the second game of the season.
Anthony is one of the greatest and most productive scorers in NBA history. He may need to play like against Memphis.
