New York Knicks: Can Kristaps Porzingis Be An All-Star In 2016-17?
Revitalizing The Knicks
There’s an understandable fascination with statistics in the world of sports. Far more important than statistical achievement, however, is the impact that a player has on their team’s pursuit of success.
Thus, one can’t help but believe that, if Kristaps Porzingis helps the New York Knicks return to prominence, he’ll be an All-Star.
Team success isn’t necessary for a player to make the All-Star Game, but it certainly helps. Carmelo Anthony may be the primary beneficiary of the Knicks’ potential resurgence, but a second player could easily join him.
Multi-time All-Stars Joakim Noah and Derrick Rose could make cases of their own, but it’s Porzingis who’s being regarded as the No. 2 player on the Knicks’ roster.
New York has missed the playoffs in three consecutive seasons, which creates the potential for a turnaround to be rewarded. A primary example of how influential that would be is 2013, when both Anthony and Tyson Chandler were All-Stars.
If Porzingis helps the Knicks play winning basketball again, then an All-Star Game appearance will be a realistic expectation.
