Ron Baker

Chasson Randle could’ve made this list, but he missed time due to a left orbital fracture. With Randle out, fellow roster hopeful Ron Baker took it upon himself to make a power statement about his deserving to make the 2016-17 squad.

The New York Knicks need depth in the backcourt and Baker’s preseason performances earned him a main roster spot and a chance to provide it.

Baker burst onto the scene with nine points and two 3-point field goals made in 20 minutes against the Brooklyn Nets. A game later, he put up eight points, four rebounds, and two assists in 16 minutes.

Baker proceeded to dish out 10 assists over the course of the final three games, including a 12-point and five-assist performance against the Boston Celtics.

Baker may not be an explosive athlete or a player with an elite individual skill, but he provides a bit of everything. He’s a tenacious defender, a capable 3-point shooter, a positionally versatile guard, and a self-motivated player.

Baker isn’t a perfect player, but he’s done more than enough to warrant a main roster spot in 2016-17.
