The New York Knicks have recovered well from a disappointing 130-103 loss to the Houston Rockets in the preseason opener. Carmelo Anthony and Brandon Jennings have come alive to help Kristaps Porzingis lead New York to a pair of motivating victories.

Though an intriguing number of players have stepped up early in the preseason, a select few have yet to find their proverbial footing in 2016-17.

The outcome of preseason games doesn’t influence the regular season standings. This three-week stretch can be invaluable to team building, however, as players shake off the rust of the offseason and prepare for 82 games of meaningful basketball.

With just three games remaining on the preseason schedule, a number of Knicks players need to step up before their inconsistency carries over—or costs them their place in the rotation.

In some instances, the players who need to step up are locked into their roles, but need to perform with more consistency. In others, they’re fighting for a backup job that’s slipping further and further away the more they struggle.

No matter the reason, the following members of the New York Knicks need to step their preseason game up.
