New York Knicks: Realistic Expectations For Joakim Noah In 2016-17
Rebounding
Joakim Noah may have declined as a scorer from 2013-14 to 2015-16, but he’s still a dominant rebounder. Even in 2015-16, when all else seemed to fail, Noah was one of the most productive rebounders in the NBA.
The New York Knicks have a number of players who can get after it on the boards, but it’s Noah who should anchor the team effort.
Noah pulled down 8.8 rebounds in just 21.9 minutes of action per game in 2015-16. That translates to a per 36 average of 14.3, which continued what’s been a brilliant career on the boards.
Noah has dipped below 11.0 rebounds per 36 minutes just once since averaging 9.8 as a rookie in 2007-08. He averaged 10.9 in that one exception of a season.
Noah has never averaged less than 3.6 offensive rebounds per 36 minutes, which includes the 4.9 he pulled down in 2015-16. He’s a workhorse on both ends whose size, length, and tenacity will keep him productive.
With his uncanny passing ability, it would behoove the Knicks to let Noah work his magic on the boards and feed the fast break with his gorgeous outlet passes.
