1. Derrick Rose Looked Sensational

One could make the case that no player had a more important performance than starting point guard Derrick Rose. Rose is entering the final year of his contract, and the New York Knicks are entering another season with uncertainty at point guard.

Against the Houston Rockets, Rose both produced with efficiency and showed flashes of being something close to the explosive force he used to be.

Rose’s first bucket as a member of the Knicks was a smooth jump shot that he stepped into and converted from midrange. He also took his man off the bounce and finished with a gorgeous up-and-under reverse layup.

We may never see the 2010-11 version of Rose again, but he looked absolutely sensational from an athletic perspective against Houston.

Rose played 25 productive minutes, recording 16 points, five assists, two rebounds, one offensive board, and one block. He shot 7-of-14 from the field and made three trips to the free throw line, converting two attempts.

Rose wasn’t throwing down monster dunks, but he looks as quick, elusive, and fast as he ever has before.

Porzingis’ performance may have been more impressive, but the fact that Rose still has that level of athleticism left in the tank is undeniably intriguing.
