4. Willy Hernangomez Got Exposure

The New York Knicks acquired Willy Hernangomez on the night of the 2015 NBA Draft. The former Liga ACB standout spent the 2015-16 season with Real Madrid, impressing on a per 36 basis before shining with Spain at the 2016 Summer Olympics.

With the backup center position far from locked up, Hernangomez both made his case and gained an invaluable first taste of NBA basketball.

Hernangomez received 16 minutes of court time against the Rockets and was one of just two players with a positive +/-. A +2 on the box score, Hernangomez made a quality impact on both ends of the floor.

Statistically speaking, he recorded four points, three rebounds, one offensive board, one assist, and one steal on 2-of-4 shooting from the field.

Hernangomez’s energy and tenacity on the offensive glass is a part of what defines him as a player. His ability to pass from the high and low post, as well as his pick and roll potential, could elevate him to starting-caliber heights in the long-term.

Hernangomez, who already has extensive professional experience at 22 years of age, offered an encouraging look at why Phil Jackson coveted him at the 2015 NBA Draft.
