The NBA D-League Showcase

Date: January 6 & 8, 2016
Opponents: Texas Legends & Reno Bighorns
Outcome: 105-103, L (Legends) & 115-114, W (Bighorns)

The NBA D-League Showcase is a day that you mark on the calendar. Not only is the Showcase beneficial for the players, but it’s one of the most exciting times of the D-League season.

More from Daily Knicks

Over the course of five days, 19 games were played. The games took place at the Kaiser Permanente Arena, home of the Santa Cruz Warriors, and many of the games were shown on NBATV.

The D-League Showcase gives NBA teams, scouts, and general managers the opportunity to see the D-League teams compete. Following the Showcase, teams have been known to offer players 10-day contracts. From January 8 to January 31, 11 players received a call-up.

One of those 11 players, Thanasis Antetokounmpo, received a 10-day contract from the New York Knicks on January 29.

With 19 games set to take place during the D-League Showcase, the Westchester Knicks had two games. Their first opponent was the Texas Legends.

Even though their first game was close, the Knicks had trouble containing Tu Holloway. Holloway was effective with his 3-point shots and nearly finished the game with a double-double. The former Legends guard finished the game with 24 points and seven assists.

Along with that, Westchester struggled on offense. The Knicks only scored three points in the final fives minutes of the game and didn’t score in the final two minutes and 22 seconds of the game.

After losing their first game by two points, the Knicks hoped to come out victorious in their second game against the Reno Bighorns. And that’s what happened.

Just like their game against the Legends, their game against the Bighorns was a nail-biter.

The Knicks had many challenges in that game. Westchester, which had a solid defense, had to find a way to contain Reno’s fast-paced offense. David Stockton, who finished that game with 17 points, had the ability to score at will. Erick Green is an effective shooter, which made that backcourt dangerous.

In this game, Green totaled 37 points, five rebounds, and five assists. In addition, he shot 12-of-17 (.705) from the field and 6-of-7 (.857) from downtown.

Along with scoring 23 points, Vince Hunter was a force on the boards. Hunter finished the game with 16 rebounds.

For Westchester, five players (Darion Atkins, Jordan Bachynski, Jimmer Fredette, Travis Trice and Sean Marshall) scored in double-digits. Atkins almost recorded a triple-double (15 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists) and Bachynski finished the game with a double-double (24 points and 12 rebounds).
