3-Point Shooting

As previously alluded to, Courtney Lee is one of the more efficient 3-point shooters in the NBA. With a career 3-point field goal percentage of .384, it’s fair to assume Lee will continue to space the floor with a consistent stroke.

What can be expected of Lee in 2016-17, however, is an increase in his number of makes and attempts from beyond the arc.

Lee has a career average of 1.0 3-point field goals made on 2.7 attempts per game. His career-high for 3-point field goals made per game was 1.5 in 2011-12 and his career-best mark for total 3-balls made was 90 in 2014-15.

Lee put up a career-high 225 3-point field goal attempts in 2009-10 and averaged a career-high 3.7 in 2011-12.

In 2016-17, the best case scenario for the Knicks would be for Lee to attempt less midrange jump shots and more 3-point field goals. In 2015-16, he shot 22-of-42 on 2-point jump shots from 20-to-24 feet and hit 40.3 percent of his catch-and-shoot 3-point field goals.

In Jeff Hornacek’s offense, Lee should make at least 100 3-point field goals in 2016-17, with a realistic expectation being somewhere in the 125-to-130 range—an average of 1.5 made per game.

Realistic Expectation: 1.5 3-Point Field Goals Made Per Game, 125 Total
