Brandon Jennings: Playmaking

Position: Point Guard
Age: 26 (9/23/1989)
2015-16 Slash Line: .368/.329/.731
2015-16 Season Averages: 18.1 MPG, 6.9 PPG, 3.5 APG, 2.0 RPG, 0.6 SPG, 1.1 3PM

The New York Knicks landed what may have been the steal of the summer in point guard Brandon Jennings. Jennings, who has started 416 regular season and 11 postseason games, was signed to a one-year deal worth $5 million to be the Knicks’ sixth man.

The greatest strength that Jennings will provide the Knicks with in 2016-17 is his ability to excel as an offensive playmaker

Jennings boasts career averages 15.5 points, 5.9 assists, 3.1 rebounds, 1.3 steals, and 1.8 3-point field goals per game. Entering the injury-plagued 2015-16, however, he had career averages of 16.6 points, 6.2 assists, 3.2 rebounds, 1.4 steals, and 1.9 3-point field goals made.

Best of all, Jennings has a career average of just 2.3 turnovers per game and a career assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.57.

Jennings’ ability to facilitate without turning the ball over and shoot the 3-ball with high volume and efficiency will be invaluable to the Knicks. That’s similar to Jose Calderon, but Jennings has the ability and athleticism to take his man off the bounce.

If Jennings manages to remain healthy in 2016-17, he could both earn a new contract with the Knicks and help the team make the playoffs.
