New York Knicks: Brandon Jennings Will Win Sixth Man Of The Year
3. Jeff Hornacek
The New York Knicks may have shocked the NBA world by hiring Jeff Hornacek, but it’s all beginning to make sense. Hornacek played under a number of legendary coaches, including Cotton Fitzsimmons, Johnny Orr, and Jerry Sloan.
Much like the coaches who molded him, Hornacek runs an offense that values the presence of multiple playmakers—great news for Brandon Jennings.
Jennings and Derrick Rose are comparable to the duo Hornacek coached in Phoenix: Goran Dragic and Eric Bledsoe. Dragic was a skilled player who could facilitate and space the floor, while Bledsoe was a powerful athlete who primarily scored by driving the lane.
Jennings is a skilled player who can facilitate and space the floor, while Rose is a powerful athlete who primarily scores by driving the lane.
What this means for Jennings is that he doesn’t need to see the court in relief of Rose; he can play alongside him, as well. Jennings’ ability to shoot and facilitate plays into Rose’s game as a slashing scorer with a quick first step.
Hornacek was a hybrid guard himself during his playing years, and his work with Dragic—All-NBA Third Team in 2013-14—implies he’ll know exactly how to work with Jennings.
