Derrick Rose may not be in any NBA MVP award discussions, but he still has enough left in the tank to help the New York Knicks in 2016-17.

The New York Knicks have built a roster with unbelievable name value and potential. If healthy, a Knicks team that’s found healthy chemistry could go toe-to-toe with almost any powerhouse in the NBA.

The primary key to the Knicks’ convoluted puzzle is the health and production of new starting point guard Derrick Rose.

Rose has been through the basketball gauntlet over the past five seasons. He won NBA MVP in 2010-11, but quickly had a change of fortune when a series of leg-related injuries were essentially ignored in 2011-12.

What resulted was a career-threatening knee injury that likely could’ve been avoided if the Chicago Bulls had taken the proper precautions.

Rose proceeded to miss the entire 2012-13 season and played just 10 games before suffering another knee injury in 2013-14. Though he’s shown signs of improvement over the past two seasons, his reputation often outweighs his reality.

Though the risk is as genuine as it’s been described for the Knicks, Rose has quite a bit left in the tank.
