Knicks: Five Reasons New York Will Make The Playoffs
Addressing The Injury Concerns
Before moving forward, the primary reason for skepticism must be addressed. The New York Knicks have built an extraordinarily promising roster, but that potential comes with legitimate injury concerns.
The encouraging news for the Knicks is that many of those concerns are being addressed by the players themselves.
Derrick Rose isn’t as explosive as he used to be, but he’s played upwards of 60 games in consecutive seasons. He played 66 games in 2015-16 and was active for 51 regular season and 12 postseason outings in 2014-15.
Thus, while his minutes and overall availability will need to be monitored, he’s proven capable of handling a solid workload already.
Furthermore, Brandon Jennings played in all but five games after making his 2015-16 return from a ruptured achilles tendon. Joakim Noah missed significant time in 2015-16, but he suffered a freak injury—not a career-threatening ailment.
Thus, while the injury concerns are entirely fair, it must be noted that Rose and Jennings are on the upswing as far as durability is concerned.
